Our story

Founder & CEO

The Women CyberSecurity Society (WCS2) is a registered non-profit founded in April 2018 by Lisa Kearney, a cybersecurity veteran. The idea originated after experiencing bullying and harassment on the job time and again with no support available. Lisa decided to do something about it and created a community member association to fill in the gaps to raise awareness about the lack of diversity, inclusion for women and marginalized groups across the industry.

Today, the society supports the community by offering mentoring, 24/7 unlimited online training, workshops, scholarships, awards and more. If you're an organization with similar goals, reach out to us to collaborate.

International Women in Cyber Day (IWCD) is a global initiative with the aim of celebrating women's achievements within the industry and bringing awareness to the issues and challenges they face.

We call upon industry, government and educators to partner, sponsor and participate with us in 2025 to make this a national and international reality!

President's Message

Let's face it, these last few years have been hard for all of us!

The pandemic continues to take its toll on society, the economy, and many experienced personal trials. To those directly affected by the loss of a loved one, we send our sincere condolences!

During unprecedented social distancing, we have the gift of time and reflect on the blessings around us. We see the world setting healthier priorities, families strengthening bonds, a growing cyber workforce, environmental improvements, and the world uniting in the fight for a COVID-19 vaccine. All of which is truly astonishing and something to be extremely thankful for.

I'm proud to be Canadian and to live in a country where our government demonstrates reliance on science and takes decisive and immediate actions to supports our collective nation!

Through its programs and services, the Government of Canada has provided economic relief to individuals and organizations which enables many businesses to continue to operate and provide services to those in need.

A huge thank you to all our supporters, partners, collaborators, volunteers, donors and to all the board members for working diligently throughout 2020. Your efforts gave women an avenue and safe haven to provide and receive support, to improve their livelihoods and support their families with the opportunity to begin or advance a career in cybersecurity!

A special thank you to Hon. Dr. Hedy Fry PC MP who has supported our nonprofit and IWCD since 2019. Thank you also to the cities of Vancouver, Ottawa and St. John's for proclaiming IWCD!

Our Mission

Empowering women for cybersecurity throughout the lifecycle of their career!

Our mission is to advance and retain women and marginalized groups within the cybersecurity industry.  We understand support is needed  throughout the lifecycle of a career!  No matter if you're seasoned veteran or just getting started in cybersecurity, we have programs and services here to help you!

We aim to increase diversity and inclusion while increasing workforce skills and lowering the gender gaps within the industry. An estimated 3.5 million jobs* will be vacant by 2021.

"Whether they are employed in the public or private sectors, they are guardians of our national and economic security."  ~ US President, Executive Order, May 2, 2019

The partnerships we build focus on fostering opportunities and leading the way for women to succeed. Women should not just survive but thrive when they receive the support and equal opportunities to achieve goals and leadership positions.
